As many of you will already know, much of the pagan faith is based upon a deep connection with nature and the expansive energy that it harvests. This is actually one of the main reasons why a lot of modern pagans find themselves drawn toward wiccan and pagan practices. Being close to nature can often times feel like being closer to the truth. It feels separate from the manmade distractions that the rest of the world is so littered with and it encourages you to really breathe, focus and feel the natural pulse of the planet. This pulse is something that many feel is missing from their life. If you are new to the Pagan faith, or have been feeling a little starved of nature due to the lockdown, then let us share with you how to connect with nature in a way that you can accomplish no matter where you live.
The very first step you should take is to go and find your nearest space that is filled with as much nature as possible. If you live on the coast, this could be the beach. If you live in the city, this could be your nearest park. If you live in the countryside, pick your favorite field or forest. You can find nature everywhere.
Lay on the ground and focus on how it holds you. Think about how can you feel the energy within your body shifting and allow yourself to submit to its power. Observe the way that the wind might feel on your skin, if you’re lucky enough to be out on a sunny day, make sure you appreciate the warmth of the sun on your face and just sit with those feelings for a while.
Next, you can shift your focus to the sounds that surround you. Listen to what you can hear, the chirping birds, the branches of the trees moving with the wind an allow the soundtrack of the natural world to soothe you. Take in all you can from each of your senses, including smell and touch, and allow this focus to take you away from the stressors of everyday life. When we do this, it is just like meditation, we are exiting our thoughts to enter into a natural energy flow. This helps us to let go of the things that we hold onto that we no longer need to, unblocking ourselves from stress and making way for good energies to enter our bodies.
Connecting with nature is such a huge part of the pagan practice because it is reflective of how we connect with ourselves, how we tap into our intuitive nature and how we harness energy to carry out our spiritual practices. The more that we meditate, connect with the earth’s natural pulse and allow our mind to drift whilst letting our spiritual intuition to take over, the better we are as practicing witches.
We hope that you enjoyed reading this and that you get yourselves out into nature today.
